Synthetic monitoring provides users with the ability to manage their monitors effectively. Users can easily add new monitors, view a list of existing Synthetic Monitors, and modify configurations as needed. Users can also perform various actions such as editing, copying, deleting, or pausing and running monitors. Additionally, users can create custom monitors based on scripts or URLs. These features ensure comprehensive and efficient monitoring for optimal performance and uptime.

Global Action Icon

• Add a New Monitor: To add a monitor, the user needs to click on the "Add" button.
  • Monitor Name: This is a unique identifier for the monitor.
  • Description: This field allows the user to provide brief details of the monitor.
  • Script Tab : The script is a set of instructions or code that defines how the monitor operates. Users can add below script details in this tab.
    • Type: Users can select Script or URL directly from the Script tab, with the option to choose between a new or existing script without additional navigation.
      • Script: Select this option to use script in the monitor.
        • Script: Users can use existing RBU scripts or can record new RBU scripts for this monitor.
        • Refresh: It will refresh the existing script list with recently added scripts.
        • Record New Script: To record a new script, the user clicks the Record button, enters the URL in the prompted textbox, and clicks the Start Recording button. A new window opens, allowing the user to perform actions on the page, which will be recorded as part of the script. Once the user ends the recording, the script is saved by the specified monitor name.
      • URL: select this option to use Web URL in the monitor.
        • URL: user can provide specific web URL to monitor. For example, https://www.google.com.
        • Page: The Page is the name assigned to the URL.
    • Generate Lighthouse Report: Select this option if you wish to generate a Lighthouse report for the monitor.
  • Location Tab: Specifies the location from where the synthetic traffic will be generated. Under location, you can view the added load generators and their corresponding information.
    • Monitor Location Name: It shows the location name for the monitor.
    • IP: It will show an IP address associated with the load generator.
    • Actions: Options to manage the location.
      • Delete: It will delete the configured location.
  • Schedule Tab: Select the interval for this synthetic monitor. Available interval are every 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours or 1 day.
  • Video Clips: Users can configure video clip settings here.
    • Video Clip Mode:
      • Clips will not be captured: No video clips will be recorded; this is by default selected.
      • Clips will be captured at provided frequency: Video clips will be recorded based on the specified frequency in milliseconds.
      • Clips will be captured only when threshold conditions meet: Video clips will only be captured when certain predefined threshold conditions are met.
      • Capture rendering metrics without saving video by taking clips: Video rendering metrics will be captured without saving the actual video clips.

Note: The options below will be available based on the selected video clip mode.

• • • Frequency (ms): This setting specifies the time interval, in milliseconds, for capturing video frames during the synthetic session. A lower value results in more frequent captures, providing a smoother video recording, while a higher value will capture fewer frames, resulting in less frequent updates.
    • Resolution: This setting determines the quality of the video recording. Users can choose from available options, such as Low or High, based on their requirements. A higher resolution provides better video quality, while a lower resolution can reduce storage usage and may be suitable for monitoring basic activities or when storage space is limited.
    • DOM Threshold (ms): It is applicable when user select “Clips will be captured only when threshold conditions meet”, user can specify threshold value for DOM content.
    • Onload Threshold (ms:): It is applicable when the user selects “Clips will be captured only when threshold conditions meet”, user can specify threshold value for onload time.
    • Audit Logs: The audit logs for monitors track all activities, detailing the Monitor(s) involved, the User who performed the action, the Activity carried out, the Activity Date and Time, and Description for context.
    • Global Configuration: The global configuration feature allows users to select and apply configuration settings to multiple synthetic monitors simultaneously, eliminating the need for individual configurations. With centralized control, users can efficiently manage large-scale monitoring setups, optimizing their workflow and ensuring consistent monitoring across various applications or services.

Synthetic Monitors Table

• Status: This section displays whether the monitor is currently paused or running. When running, it indicates that the monitor is active; when paused, it indicates that monitoring is stopped. It will also show two additional statuses: Fail (if the monitor fails to perform as expected) and In Progress (if the monitor is currently undergoing a test or process).
• Monitor Name: The name assigned to identify the synthetic monitor.
• Description: A brief summary or details about the purpose of the monitor.
• Script: The script used to define actions or validations for the monitor.
• Locations: The geographical locations where the monitor will run.
• Schedule: The frequency or timing at which the monitor will execute.
• Availability Percentage: This section shows the test case results and availability status. When the test passes, it displays a green indicator. If the test fails, it displays a red indicator. When the monitor is stopped, it shows as inactive. It also calculates and displays the percentage of availability based on the test outcomes.

  • Toggle Button: Allows the user to enable or disable monitors.
  • Copy Monitor: Enables the user to duplicate a monitor.
  • Edit Monitor: Allows the user to modify an existing monitor.
  • Delete Monitor: Permits the user to remove a monitor.

Note: These above actions will not work when the monitor status is "In Progress".
