Derived metrics are those graphs that are derived from two or more metrics by applying some formulas. Sometimes, there are requirements for some report analysis, for which some calculations need to be done on reports data to get some derived data. For example, if an average of 3 reports are needed, then the derived data is required by adding the results of 3 reports and dividing it by 3. Therefore, derived data is like extracting new information from existing one by performing some calculations on existing data.

Create Derived Metric using Group By

To create derived metrics, you have to fill in the following fields:

• Metric Name: This shows the name of the metric which is selected from the tree for which the derived metric will be created. You can select the option i.e Sum or Average from the drop-down, and can see the corresponding description in the description field. You can also edit the description field.
• Group By: This is used to group the derived metric as per tier, server, or instance level. In group by, you can select any one of the Tier, Server, or both from the drop-down for grouping the derived metric.
• Group by Tags: This is used to group the derived metric as per tag level as you can select any one of the Tags from the drop-down for grouping the derived metric with respect to the selected tier, server, or instance level.
• Metric Group: This is the name for the derived metric group that the user wants to show for derived metrics that will be created in the Custom metrics derived group.

Notes:

• By default, the metric group will be applied once you select the derived metric you want to use.
• The default value in the group by is set to None.
• Once you have provided all the values in their respective fields, you have to click on Apply Apply button to apply the derived metric, which will be added to the custom metric. You can also close the create derived metric window by clicking on the Close Apply button
• The created derived metrics will be added in custom metrics.
