The Update Data File window is used to modify or update data files associated with script parameters during a running test. This feature allows you to inject new data, append additional records, or change the data source used by specific script parameters without stopping the test. It is especially useful in long-duration tests where data exhaustion, dynamic data variation, or on-the-fly updates are required to maintain realistic test execution.

Configuration Options

Script Name

• Script Name: Displays a list of all scripts used in the current test. You must select the script that contains the parameter you want to update. Selecting a script filters the available parameters in the next dropdown.

Parameter Name

• Parameter Name: Lists the parameters defined inside the selected script. Only parameters that are linked to data files (like Login IDs, Search Terms, Product IDs, etc.) appear here. Selecting a parameter ensures that any data update is applied only to that parameter.

Mode

Defines how the selected data should be applied to the parameter.

• Append: Adds new data at the end of the existing data file. This mode is used when you want to increase the available data pool without affecting the current entries.
• Replace: Completely overwrites existing parameter values with the data from the selected file.

Select Data File(s)

• Select Data File(s): Allows you to browse and select one or more data files from your machine. These files contain the updated parameter values that will be included in the script execution. The file path is displayed automatically once selected.

Add Button

• Add: Adds the selected script, parameter, mode, and data file entry into the update list. This step does not update the runtime immediately.
• Open File Manager: Opens the file manager window to browse, upload, or select data files for updating parameters.
• Enable Debug Level: Enables detailed debug logs for data file updates, useful for troubleshooting.

Data Update List

All configured entries appear in the list/table before applying. Each column provides specific details:

• Script Name: The script associated with the upcoming data update.
• Parameters: The parameter inside the script where the new data will be applied.
• Mode: The method chosen for updating (such as Append).
• Data File Name: The name of the selected data file that will be used during the update.
• Action: Allows removal of any entry before final application, ensuring full control over what will be updated.

This list allows multiple data files to be updated in a single action, giving you flexibility and reducing repetitive steps.

Buttons

• Apply: Executes all data file updates listed in the table. After applying, the script begins using the updated data immediately, without requiring test interruption. This is critical for ensuring continuous testing and supporting dynamic data needs during load test execution.
• Cancel: Exit the window without saving or applying any changes. Any entries in the list are discarded.

Notes

• Data added at runtime: Is applied to the system according to the selected mode (e.g., Append).
• Data file changes: Take effect immediately for all new iterations of the script after the update is applied.
• Existing iterations: Continue using the previously loaded data because they were already in progress.

Using Append mode: Helps prevent data shortage and ensures continuous, diverse data usage during long or high-volume tests.
