Restore

Restore is the process of recovering or re-establishing a database from a backup to a specific point in time or to its original state. Restoring a database is a critical operation in database management and is essential for data recovery, disaster recovery, and various other scenarios. In the Restore window, you can see the SQL VSS Writer Service following details which are listed below:

• Restore History Id: This refers to the historical record or log of the restoration operation that has been performed on a particular database.
• File Number: This refers to a numerical identifier that represents a specific file within a database or a backup set.
• Destination Phys Drive: This refers to the specific disk or storage location where restored database files are placed during the restore process.
• Destination Phys Name: This refers to the name of the physical file on the target system where a restored file is placed. It is used to identify the specific file within the target database where the restored data or log will reside.
• File Group Name: This refers to a logical grouping of database files that are restored or managed together. It is used to organize and group related database files, such as data files, into logical units for the purpose of data recovery.
• Restore Date: This refers to the date and time at which a database restore operation was performed. When a database is restored from a backup.
• Destination Database Name: This refers to the name of the database to which you are restoring data. When you perform a restore operation, you can choose to restore the data from a backup file into a new or existing database.
• User Name: This refers to the SQL Server login or user account that is used to execute the restore operation.
• Backup Set Id: This refers to the unique identifier associated with a specific backup set. It plays a crucial role in helping SQL Server identify and differentiate between multiple backup sets stored in backup media.
• Restore Type: This refers to the specific method or approach used when restoring a database from the backup files. It also indicates how the restoration process is being executed and the desired state of the database after the restoration operation.
• Replace: This refers to the replace function which is used for text manipulation for overwriting existing database during restoration.
• Recovery: This refers to the process of restoring a database to a consistent and usable state whether it's after a system crash, a hardware failure or the need to recover to a specific point in time.
• Stop At: This refers to the point in time to which the database was recovered.
• Device Count: This refers to the number of devices involved in the restore operation. This number can be less than the number of media families for the backup.
• Stop At Mark Name: This refers to the point in time at which the database was recovered.
• Stop Before: This refers to the clause which specify that the log record that is immediately before the mark is the recovery point.

Note: You can perform the following actions in the Backup and Restore window which are listed below:

• Search: You can perform search operation in the table by providing the service name, start type, last startup time etc in the Search in table column icon.
• Download : On clicking this icon, it will download the Backup and Restore report in the CSV file format in your local.
• Toggle Columns : On clicking this icon, you will be able to show or hide a column from the Service Logs report window.
• Toggle Filter : On clicking this icon, you will be able to show or hide a column from the Backup and Restore report window.
• You can also see the applied time filter on the right side of the window.
• You can also show/hide the database table report by clicking on the Show/Hide icon.
